THIS PONY IS READY TO SHOW AND GO!!!!
If you have been searching for a beautiful 1966 Ford Mustang Convertible that is turn-key, ready to be driven and enjoyed, has been nicely restored to a very high level, and can win trophies at the local car shows then your investment classic is here!!! I will start by saying that I believe this car looks even better in person then it will in the pictures that follow. The Red Candy Metallic paint is jaw dropping gorgeous and the pictures do not do it justice. We recently acquired this Pony Convertible from a gentleman in Alabama who had owned the car for almost 4 years. It was in beautiful condition when he bought it, however the paint had some flaws and he wanted to change the color slightly to match his 2010 Ford F150 so he brought it to a good friend who was a professional painter and it was properly disassembled and given a gorgeous cosmetic restoration 3 years ago. Once finished, it was show ready and he enjoyed taking it to the local shows and cruise-ins where he came home with a trophy almost every time. The original 289 V8 and C-4 Automatic transmission had been rebuilt shortly before he had purchased the car and the drivetrain now has less then 5000 miles on it since it was rebuilt. The gentleman we bought it from then upgraded this ’66 Stang with the addition of a 4bbl carburetor and intake, power front disc brakes, and a brand new flow master dual exhaust system. After 4 years of enjoyment he realized it was time to let it go as other priorities came up. This Pony truly runs as good as it looks and is ready to be driven and enjoyed by its lucky future owner….Maybe you?? I will do my best to provide you with enough large images, a video of the car running and an honest description of the condition to help you decide if this is the Pony Convertible for you. Sit back and enjoy!
As you will see in the photo tour below, the paint and body on this ’66 Convertible are fantastic. Body panels all appear to be original although the hood was replaced 3 years ago when the car was professionally repainted because of a few small dents it had. The body is extremely straight when you look down the sides and the body gaps are excellent. Doors shut very nicely with no body sag. Chrome trim, bumpers and emblems all look close to new. As you will see, this Mustang has had GT style fog lights added to the grill and a great factory luggage rack on the trunk giving this Pony a classic, yet very sporty look. All of the glass is excellent and windows operate nicely and seal up well to the convertible top. This Classic was always garage kept and pampered and it shows. The body is truly in near flawless condition but to be safe I imagine if you looked close enough you may find a tiny rock chip or two that have been touched up. This car has already proven itself at the local car shows and best of all it is a fantastic running and driving classic that can, and should be, driven and enjoyed at every opportunity. Here is a photo tour of the body:
I believe you should drive this Pony Convertible with the top down every chance you get but it is also nice to know that this Mustang does have a beautiful Black Power convertible top that is in fantastic condition and operates quickly and smoothly when needed. It has an upgraded split back glass rear window and of course we are including a boot cover that snaps on easily when the top is down. This car actually looks almost as good with the top up but I say, let the sun shine in and enjoy this Pony topless!!
Complimenting the glistening Red Candy Metallic exterior is a nicely upgraded Black Pony Deluxe interior. This car originally came equipped with a standard interior but it is hard to resist upgrading to the Pony seats when doing a restoration on these cars. The seats, door panels and carpeting look close to brand new. The dash pad also looks new and gauge bezel and glove box were upgraded to the woodgrain deluxe style as well. The center console looks great. All of the gauges and lights appear to be working properly with the exception of the high beams which is most likely just the switch. As mentioned, the windows roll up and down nicely and the chrome around the windshield all looks great. Weatherstripping was all replaced and looks excellent. A nice set of black Mustang floor mats finish out the interior. The interior is basically in near flawless condition just as the exterior is and you will be amazed at just how nice it looks. Here is a look around the interior:
Hopefully you will agree at this point that this ’66 Mustang Convertible looks awesome. Now the question is, does it run as good as it looks?? Well, you better believe it does!!! The previous owner was told that the original 289 V8 and the C-4 Automatic transmission had been rebuilt shortly before he had purchased it 4 years ago. The car ran fantastic when he got it but he decided he wanted to upgrade it to make it even more fun and safe to drive. To achieve this he purchased several nice upgrade kits from K.A.R Mustang Specialists. First he purchased their 4-barrel upgrade kit to boost horsepower and enhance performance. This consisted of a new Edelbrock Performer aluminum intake manifold and Edelbrock 500cfm 4bbl Carburetor with electric choke as well as new fuel line, fuel pump, etc…To ensure this Mustang stopped reliably and easily he decided to go with an upgraded Power Front Disc Brake Conversion kit also from K.A.R Mustang. At the same time as the front disc brake conversion was done the rear drums were also replaced and adjusted so that this car stops amazingly well. With the added performance he then decided this Stallion deserved to sound like it had a little more muscle as well. He had a brand new dual exhaust system installed from the manifolds back and added Flow Masters to give this Pony the throaty tone it deserves. Make sure you listen to the video that follows to hear it running. Handling was also important of course so the front suspension was replaced with new components. Power steering makes driving a breeze!! This Mustang is also ready for driving any distance with a new 4 core radiator that keeps it running cool. The engine bay has also been nicely detailed and you will be proud to pop the hood at the shows. The undercarriage, torque boxes and floorpan areas are all rock solid with no rust issues. Inside of the trunk is also rock solid and nicely detailed with correct mat, spare tire and jack. Beautiful set of white wall radial tires are close to brand new and are mounted on original style wheels with wire wheel covers. As mentioned, this Mustang has already won its share of trophies which will be included but you will have no problem accumulating your own trophies if you decide to take it to the shows. Here is a look at the drive train and make sure you also listen to the video of the car running as well:
