We acquired this ’67 Mustang Convertible about 6 months ago. The previous owner had evidently owned the car for about 15 years. He had purchased the car in Texas while he was living in Michigan and after it arrived he had a cosmetic restoration done. He bought it for his wife so that she could join him at the car shows and cruise-ins. Now get this, she wanted a Pink and Black Mustang Convertible and that is exactly what he did for her. In fact not only was the exterior a 2-tone Pink and Black but he also had the interior custom done in pink and black. They enjoyed it for years and then moved to Pennsylvania. About 3 years ago we were told he had the motor completely rebuilt as well as the transmission. Soon after that he became ill and he passed away last year. His wife could not bear to keep the car and sold it to a local mechanic the family had been using. We purchased it from this mechanic and had it transported in an Enclosed trailer to us in Georgia. We actually thought about leaving it Pink and Black but after thinking about it for a few weeks we felt it had to go all black. As you will see in the pics that follow I think we made the right decision as this ’67 Pony looks outstanding in Triple Black. This is a great, all around Pony Convertible that is ready to be driven and enjoyed and should win its share of trophies at the local shows and events if that is what you enjoy. I will do my best to provide enough large images and a video of the car running to help you decide if this Stallion belongs in your stable. If you fall in love, feel free to call me to discuss a price that can put this Pony in your garage before the next car guy or gal scoops it up.
As I mentioned the car arrived to us in a Pink and Black color scheme. The body was in outstanding condition with no signs of rust and the body panels were extremely straight. It was an easy decision to treat this Pony to a new paint job. This was done about 4 months ago and as you will see in the pics it looks absolutely beautiful. It was done in a base coat/clear coat and has plenty of luster and reflection. Most of the chrome already looked great but we replaced anything we saw that showed any wear. Weatherstripping was also all replaced. As you will see, body panels fit great and the body is super straight. There are very few miles on it since the cosmetic restoration so I doubt you will see any real flaws in the body but perhaps there is a rock chip I may have missed. It has the deluxe hood with turn signals built in which do work. It also has the added chrome trim and moldings along the rockers which really look great. Overall, it is what I would call a Local Show Car quality that will definitely win trophies but was not built to be a trailer queen. It is ready to be driven and enjoyed. Here is a walk around tour of the body:
We think this Mustang Convertible should be driven with the top down as much as possible but it is always nice to know that it also has a brand new, upgraded, heavy duty canvas convertible top. Yes, it is a power top that works beautifully and seals up nicely. You will notice a few spots on the top in the pics which were rain drops as there was a brief sun shower when I was taking the pics. As you will see in the pics below this Black beauty looks almost as nice with the top up….but go topless as often as possible for maximum fun!!
Complimenting the beautiful black exterior is an all black interior that was pretty much completely redone. New door panels, carpeting, dash pad, seat covers, gauge cluster, and more. A brand new set of Pony carpeted floor matInterior descriptions were just put in. Steering wheel looks great. Center console looks very good. The stainless was a little pitted so we painted it in silver grey which looks good. The only thing missing in the dash is a stereo. The original radio hole is present so a stock radio will slide right in, or perhaps an upgraded Custom Auto Sound unit for the music lovers with Cd and iPod capabilities. That will be up to the lucky next owner. All of the gauges seems to be reading accurately and an oil pressure gauge was neatly mounted beneath the dash. Courtesy lights and center console light are all working. Seat belts for front and rear passengers. Windows all roll up and down nicely and glass is in great condition. Overall I think the interior is in as nice of condition as the exterior and you will be proud to put it in the shows. Have a look around:
This Mustang Convertible is an original C-code, 289 2bbl car. We were told that the motor was completely rebuilt about 3 years ago and from the sound and feel of it I believe it. We believe the car has very low miles since this rebuild and the motor was nicely upgraded with a slight cam but nothing radical. The intake was upgraded to a 4bbl Edelbrock intake and 4bbl carburetor. A nice set of headers lead out an amazing sounding dual exhaust. The engine bay itself has been detailed nicely. Shock towers and inner fenders look great with no issues! I would estimate Horsepower to be about 250-275 so a bit stronger then a stock 289. Handling and steering is a breeze thanks in part to the power steering. The car also brakes easily and straight with Power brakes. We have put about 25 miles on the car recently in the 80 degree Atlanta weather and the car has been running nicely with no overheating issues. Fresh oil change and tune up so it is ready to hit the road! We also added a sweet set of 15″ Magnum 500 Wheels wrapped in brand new BFG Radial TA’s. This Mustang has a great stance and look. Undercarriage also appears to be rock solid with no rust issues. I believe the front floorpans were replaced many years ago with the correct pans and the work was done very well. Although not as pristine underneath I think it is still looks very nice. Inside of the trunk is also rock solid with no rust issues and has the correct mat which looks nice. The Vin # is stamped in the inner fender and the original trim tag is still in place on the inner fender as well as the side of the drivers door. This was not originally a Black car according to the codes but everything else appears to be correct.
You really need to hear this Pony running so make sure you watch and listen to the video that follows the pics.
Hopefully at this point you agree that this Triple Black ’67 Pony is quite the Thoroughbred. Maybe you are curious to hear it start up and run…well, here is a short video so you can do just that: ( Click the arrow to play )
