This gorgeous, Highland Green,’68 Mustang convertible is one you do not want to miss!!! We located this one from a woman in New Mexico who had owned it since 1998. She purchased it from a classic car collector, also from New Mexico and it was one of her dream cars. When she bought it, the car only had 110,910 original miles on it. The current mileage is 111,295 miles. Do the math and you will see that in her 17 years of owning this beauty she put just over 1300 miles on it. Her brother told me that she took the car out a couple of times a month and loved to drive it even if it was only a few miles each time she had it out. It had received a very high quality repaint in the original color by the previous owner about 18 years ago and she always kept the car in the garage so it still looks outstanding. The time had come when she realized it was time to let the next lucky owner enjoy her pride and joy…maybe you??!!
This Mustang has so much going for it from an investment perspective as it is a rare color combination with the highly desirable J-Code 302 V84bbl mated to the original 4-speed and has power steering and power disc brakes. As you will see in the pictures that follow the car is in outstanding condition inside and out and truly drives fantastic! I will do my best to provide enough large images, a video so you can hear it running, and an honest description to help you decide if this is the one you have been waiting for. As I mentioned this gorgeous Pony is believed to have one repaint about 18 years ago in the original Highland Green color. The paint looks fantastic and the body is in amazing condition. Body panel fit is outstanding and it appears to be wearing all of its original sheet metal with no evidence of rust repair or previous accident history. Body panels are extremely straight! When the car arrived we had it professionally wet sanded and buffed out and then also had the white C-stripe installed. All of the chrome, bumpers, etc. look excellent. As you can see this ’68 has the added chrome trim around the wheel wells, trunk and added rocker panel moldings which really dress it up nicely. It also has the deluxe hood with integrated turn signals which do work correctly. While the car is not flawless, it is pretty darn close and the only minor cosmetic issues I noticed on the body were a few very tiny rock chips that were touched up. This Classic Mustang is ready for the local shows and cruise-ins and will surely win its share of trophies if that is what you enjoy. While I hope the next owner enjoys this awesome Pony with the top down as much as possible, it is hard to deny that this Highland green beauty also looks fantastic with its white convertible top up. The top was replaced and still looks fantastic. It is a power top with the split glass rear window. It functions perfectly and seals up very nicely. We also have the matching boot cover for when the top is down. Here are some pictures with the top up:
Complimenting the Highland Green exterior is a gorgeous deluxe Parchment white interior. The seats are in fantastic condition and I am not sure if they are original or not but they very well could be. Extremely comfortable, and if they are original chances are the foam was redone. Deluxe door panels look great and as you can see in the MARTI report this car was ordered with the interior decor group and convenience control panel. The dash pad looks like new and the wood grain dash panels are also like new. The convenience group lights in the dash are working properly as are all of the lights, courtesy lights, and gauges. The only item not working is the clock. Carpeting looks great and we added a brand new set of pony floor mats. Center console with original 4-speed shifter looks great. Front and rear seat belts. The deluxe steering wheel looks awesome. The only non-orginal equipment inside is the aftermarket am/fm/cassette that replaced the original am/8-track.There is a minor flaw in the drivers side door panel where the door speaker is located. Overall the interior looks awesome and needs nothing!! Take a look:
Open the hood of this baby and you will find the original 302 V8 dressed out just like it was from the factory. With just under 112,000 original miles this Pony drives awesome and the motor runs smoothly with lots of power. The previous owner believes that the motor may have been rebuilt before her but she did not have any documentation. Regardless, it is clear that it was always well maintained and she had it tuned up several times during her ownership even though she put under 1500 miles on it in 17 years. This car is a lot of fun to drive with the factory 4-speed and 3:00 gears in the 9″ rear. The clutch feels very good and she shifts through the gears very nicely. Handling is a breeze thanks to the factory ordered power steering and power front disc brakes. I have driven this car several times and she handles great at all speeds and is very comfortable at 75 mph on the highway. Suspension is nice and tight and there are no unusual rattles. Just a beautiful driving, smooth shifting 4-speed 302 4bbl ready to go!!! We have changed the oil and other fluids. This Mustang runs nice and cool even on a 95 degree Atlanta summer day. The engine bay has nicely detailed so you will be proud to pop the hood at any of the shows. Not only does this Pony run great but it also sounds great thanks to the newer dual exhaust. You probably have noticed the great stance thanks to the brand new set of 15 ” magnum 500 wheels wrapped in brand new BFG Radial TA tires. The undercarriage also looks fantastic and I believe the floorpans are original. They are rock solid with no rust issues as are the torque boxes. Frame rails are rock solid and very straight. Undercarriage has also been nicely detailed. The trunk area is also rust free and nicely detailed with correct mat and spare tire. Original door trim tag with vin # and the vin # stamped on the inner fender well shown below. Everywhere you look I think you will be very pleased with the overall quality of this car!!! Have a look:
