Do the letters G-T-O bring back memories?? Are you looking for a beautifully restored true muscle car convertible that was built to be driven and not trailered? Do you enjoy going to the local shows and cruise ins, taking sunny day drives with family and friends, or just love collecting quality classic cars that are sure to be excellent investments?? Well, if you have been shaking your head yes then I am confident that this PHS Documented Triple Black ’69 Convertible GTO is sure to be one for you to consider!! We acquired this beauty from a gentleman here in the Atlanta, GA area who had purchased it from a collector who owned it for about 10 years. He owns a service shop and enjoys restoring a few cars a year. The GTO was in fantastic condition when he bought it but the paint was beginning to show its age so he treated it to a beautiful Base Coat/Clear Coat professional black paint job. As you will see, the paint looks amazing. The previous owner mentioned that the non-matching number motor had been completely rebuilt so he checked it out and all indications were that it was a fresh rebuild. This car has the complete PHS documentation that will be included which shows this GTO was originally delivered to a dealer in the Washington DC area but we believe it then made its way to the Atlanta, GA area where it lived most of its life. Judging from the condition of the body and undercarriage it is obvious this GTO lived a good life! As you will see in the PHS documentation this car started life as a Espresso brown car with black top and black interior. I think the color change to black was a great decision. Although it does not have its original motor it has a correct 400 V8 4bbl that was completely rebuilt and is believed to have under 10,000 miles on the rebuild. This GTO has just about every factory option possible on it! The list includes Power steering, Power front disc brakes, power top, power windows, air conditioning, tilt steering wheel, reclining passenger seat and hood tach just the way it came in 1969!
I will do my best to provide enough large images, a video of the car starting up and running and an honest description to help you decide if this Triple Black GTO Convertible should be in your garage. Sit back and enjoy!!
As mentioned above this gorgeous GTO convertible was restored approximately 10 years ago and then was treated to very nice, professional paint job last year. Although it was originally an Espresso brown color, you will not find any traces of the original color and I think you will agree this GTO looks fantastic in triple black!! As you will see in the pics that follows the paint and body are beautiful and this is a car you can proudly take to any local shows and cruise-ins and are sure to bring home your share of trophies if that is what you enjoy. We had the car professionally wet sanded and buffed. Body is extremely straight and body panel fit is really nice. The previous owner was told that the car had its original body panels with the exception of the rear passenger quarter panel that was professionally replaced. The trunk lines up great. The endura rubber front nose also lines up great and the paint on the front nose looks excellent. Overall the paint and body are near flawless however it has been driven some so there maybe a few extremely small rock chips. There is also a very small spot that was touched up by the front front edge of the passenger fender. Most people would never notice it. Chrome and stainless are all beautiful. Weatherstripping was all replaced. Power Windows go up and down nicely and all of the glass looks excellent. This is an original hideaway headlight optioned GTO and the lights open and close nicely. The lights will open up after sitting a while indicating a possible small leak in a line that we have not been able to find. Although this is not a trailer queen that is going to win Pontiac Nationals it is a very solid #2 car, loaded with options that you can drive and enjoy and know that you have a great investment in a proven piece of muscle car history. Here is a walk around photo tour:
I hope the next lucky owner takes every opportunity to drop the top on this GTO but it is also nice to know that there is a beautiful new black convertible top that compliments the black paint beautifully when needed. In fact I think you will agree that this GTO almost looks as nice with the top up as it does down. The power tops works great and rear glass window is crystal clear. The top seals up nicely when up. There is a matching boot cover for a clean look when the top is down. Take a look:
Take a step back in time when you open the drivers door and slide inside this beauty. Finished in the original black color the interior looks fantastic. Front and rear seats look great. One of the rare options as noted on the PHS docs is a reclining passenger seat which still works correctly. Dash pad looks great with no cracks. Door panels look excellent with just a minor cut by the passenger side power window switch that has been touched up. Carpeting looks excellent and nice set of GTO floor mats are included. Many years ago someone neatly installed a radar detector in the dash which I am not sure if it is hooked up and functional. A great sounding am/fm/cd player was neatly installed with speakers in the front kick panels. Another rare option this GTO has is Tilt steering wheel which works correctly and the Original steering wheel is in great shape as is the center console with original shifter. Power windows all work very nicely. All of the gauges and lights seem to be working correctly. This GTO is equipped with factory air conditioning which appears to working but the blower fan only seems to blow on low speed so may need to be serviced. The PHS docs list cruise control as another option this car was ordered with but I do not see any controls for that so I am assuming it may have been removed. Not much more to say….I think the pics will show you what you need to know:
Pop the hood on this GTO and again it looks just like it would have on the showroom floor with a stock 400 V8 4bbl begging to be driven. Although it is not the matching # block it is a period correct YX coded Pontiac Block that may have come from a 1971 GTO. The previous owner was told that the motor was completely rebuilt and he went through the motor and was confident this was correct. It is believed to have under 10,000 miles on the rebuild. The previous owner and his wife enjoyed this GTO last summer to various cruise ins and local shows and it drove fantastic. Edelbrock intake and Rochester Quadrajet 4bbl provide the fuel and she breathes out the stock manifolds and back through a great sounding dual exhaust. Mallory electronic ignition. The Turbo Hydramatic automatic transmission shifts beautifully and with 3.23 gears in the rear you can cruise all day on the highway. Power Steering and Power front disc brakes make driving effortless and this car handles the road beautifully. A new power brake booster, master cylinder, and brake lines were done by the previous owner. This ’69 is riding on a nicely re-finished set of Rally II wheels that are wrapped in almost brand new BFG Radial TA tires. The previous owner liked the look without the beauty rings and so do we. These can be added by the next owner if desired. This car originally came with the Hood Mounted Tach which stills works perfectly and is a nice addition to these muscle cars. This GTO runs nice and cool …Simply a joy to drive!! Make sure you listen to the video that follows the pics below to hear it start up and running.
Inside of the trunk is rock solid and original looking. Nicely detailed in the correct spatter paint and trunk mat. Matching Spare and jack in place. The undercarriage is also super clean and rock solid. Floorpans look original and are rock solid with no rust issues. I think you will find that the car has been nicely detailed from top to bottom. Have a look around:
