We recently got a phone call from a local gentleman who’s friend had sold us a beautiful Mustang Fastback this year. He told me he owned a ’65 Ford Galaxie XL 500 Convertible and was ready to sell it. He only lived about 30 minutes from our business so I asked him to drive it over so we could take a look. About 15 minutes after he arrived we had purchased the car. As soon as he entered our driveway I could tell this was a beautiful car and the Triple White color combination was absolutely stunning especially with the wide white wall tires and spoked wheel covers. He had owned several Ford Galaxies and was involved in the local Ford Galaixe car club. He had purchased this convertible a little over 4 years ago after it had already had a nice cosmetic restoration and complete motor and transmission rebuild. We have good receipt documentation and history to support this as well as receipts for work done by the previous owner. The car had just 98,000 miles on it when he bought it and he added about another 9,000 miles in the 4 years he owned it. While the car supposedly started its life in the Midwest he purchased it from a gentleman in Georgia who owned it for 5 years and before that it had spent a majority of its life in Florida. It is obvious from the condition of the car and undercarriage that this Galaxie did not see many winters or poor weather and was pampered by its owners. He truly enjoyed driving the car and took it to quite a few car shows, cruise-ins and and events over the years. But, as a true car guy he had the itch for another toy so decided it was time to pass this beauty along to the next lucky owner…maybe you!!!? I will do my best to provide enough large images, a video of the car starting up and running and an honest description to help you decide if this Classic Beauty should be in your garage!! We do have the car advertised on several other sites in addition to our own site and reserve the right to end our listing early if it is sold prior to the end of the listing. Sit back and enjoy!
As you will see the body is finished beautifully in its original “M” code Wimbledon White color. We were told that the car received a cosmetic restoration approximately 6 years ago. Body lines are extremely straight and body panel gaps and fit are outstanding!! Overall paint quality is fantastic and it looks like it could have been painted just a few months ago although we know it has been at least 6 years. It was repainted in a base coat/clear coat and has plenty of luster and reflection for a white car. Although the body is is not flawless it is extremely nice and will do very well at the local shows if that is what you enjoy. There is just a very tiny bubble in the paint down low in the corner of the drivers side door and perhaps a few very tiny rock chips from being driven that have been touched up. I was told that there was a small amount of rust repair in front of the drivers side rear wheel but the work that was done was done very well. Otherwise the car was rust free and extremely solid prior to paint. I believe the car has all of its original door panels. Chrome, bumpers, emblems, and trim are all extremely nice! Weatherstripping and window felts appear to all have been replaced at time of restoration. The glass is all in great condition and windows roll up and down nicely and seal up well. I think the pictures below will show you what you want to know.
While this big-bodied Galaxie 500 XL Convertible looks absolutely gorgeous with the top down and I hope the next owner enjoys it that way as much as possible, it is also nice to know that the cars white power convertible top is in great condition and works perfectly. The car also looks quite impressive with the top up as well! The convertible top was replaced at the time of restoration and has a glass rear window. The pads and top liner are also new and look great. When the top is down there is a boot cover that snaps down for a nice finished look. The boot cover is missing a few snaps but these are easy to replace. Have a look:
Finishing off the Triple white color combination is a beautiful white interior. The XL comes with the front bucket seats and center console which really provide a sporty looking interior. Originally the interior was a turquoise color and it appears it was either recovered or dyed white and it has held up beautifully and is extremely comfortable. Door panels are in great shape and really pop with the stainless panel inserts. The dash and steering wheel as well as the carpeting still retain the Turquoise color which is a great accent to the white exterior. Factory seat belts for front and rear passengers. Carpeting, dash pad, steering wheel, center console etc…are all in beautiful condition. All of the gauges and lights in the dash appear to be working correctly although the clock does not seem to be working. At some point a cruise control system was added and you will see the controls under the dash but it is not currently hooked up and functional. The AM/FM radio does seem to be working. The previous owner decided to add an aftermarket Air conditioning system that is working nicely and the unit is neatly mounted under the dash and operates on todays modern refrigerant and has a more modern A/C compressor. Otherwise I think you will find this Galaxie looks quite stock inside and also ready for the local shows. Have a look inside:
Pop the hood of this Galaxie and you will be greeted by the original 352 V8 4bbl motor that was completely rebuilt in 2006 when the car had 96,000 miles on it. We have receipts showing all of the work that was done and it was done professionally! This car fires right up and once warmed up is an absolute joy to drive with plenty of power. It truly cruises like a Cadillac and glides on the road. The automatic transmission shifts smooth and strong and we were told was rebuilt prior to the restoration done in 2006. Power steering was completely rebuilt and any components in the suspension needing replaced were replaced. Air shocks were added to the rear. The 4bbl Carburetor was rebuilt last year and performs very nicely. Power front disc brakes were added by the previous owner so this car not only handles the road beautifully but brakes like a newer car with no pulling or issues. The dual exhaust was all replaced and Flow master mufflers added for a great tone. Make sure you listen tot he car running in the video that follows. We have a folder full of receipts documenting the work that was done. The drivetrain has just over 11,000 miles on it since it was rebuilt and this car is an absolute joy to drive and I am confident it is ready to be driven anywhere you want to go!! In fact it is riding on an almost brand new set of Coker Wide Whitewall radial tires with a matching brand new spare in the trunk. The trunk itself is rock skid with no rust issues. You will see pics below and I pulled back the mat on the driver side and there is a just some glue residue on the trunk floor but no rust issues! The undercarriage and floorpans have been nicely detailed and are also rock solid and original with no rust issues!!
